The Lodge a long history
The Lodge at San Isabel has a long history. The dam for San Isabel Lake was started in 1936 and completed in 1939. Upon completion, the dam was reported to be the largest earthen dam in the world. This area was also designed and created to be one of the first recreational areas in Colorado. In those early days, the Lodge at San Isabel was the mess hall for the CC camp workers. Today people from all over the world visit Lake San Isabel for camping, fishing, backpacking, biking, canoeing, wildlife viewing and picnicking. Our summer temperatures of 80 degrees and cool evenings you will be able to explore the Wet Mountains and the 1.6 million acres San Isabel National Forest and Wilderness area.
